Cryptographic Message Syntax Algorithms
RFC 3370, “Cryptographic Message Syntax Algorithms”, is a Proposed Standard document published in September 2002 by R. Housley. It obsoletes RFC 2630, RFC 3211. It has since been updated by RFC 5754, RFC 8702. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
This document describes several cryptographic algorithms for use with the Cryptographic Message Syntax (CMS) [CMS]. The CMS is used to digitally sign, digest, authenticate, or encrypt arbitrary message contents.
What “Proposed Standard” means
An entry-level standards-track specification: stable, peer-reviewed and a solid basis for implementation, though it may still evolve before becoming an Internet Standard.
