Overview
RFC 3339, “Date and Time on the Internet: Timestamps”, is a Proposed Standard document published in July 2002 by G. Klyne, C. Newman. It has since been updated by RFC 9557. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
This document defines a date and time format for use in Internet protocols that is a profile of the ISO 8601 standard for representation of dates and times using the Gregorian calendar.
What “Proposed Standard” means
An entry-level standards-track specification: stable, peer-reviewed and a solid basis for implementation, though it may still evolve before becoming an Internet Standard.
