RFC 2248, “Network Services Monitoring MIB”, is a Proposed Standard document published in January 1998 by N. Freed, S. Kille. It obsoletes RFC 1565. It has been obsoleted by RFC 2788 — refer to the newer document for the authoritative version. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
This MIB may be used on its own for any application, and for most simple applications this will suffice. This MIB is also designed to serve as a building block which can be used in conjunction with application- specific monitoring and management. [STANDARDS-TRACK]

An entry-level standards-track specification: stable, peer-reviewed and a solid basis for implementation, though it may still evolve before becoming an Internet Standard.
