RIP-2 MD5 Authentication
RFC 2082, “RIP-2 MD5 Authentication”, is a Proposed Standard document published in January 1997 by F. Baker, R. Atkinson. It has been obsoleted by RFC 4822 — refer to the newer document for the authoritative version. The canonical text is published by the RFC Editor.
Abstract
Growth in the Internet has made us aware of the need for improved authentication of routing information. RIP-2 provides for unauthenticated service (as in classical RIP), or password authentication. [STANDARDS-TRACK]

An entry-level standards-track specification: stable, peer-reviewed and a solid basis for implementation, though it may still evolve before becoming an Internet Standard.
