About BuyVM
Their standout product is block storage slabs — starting at just $1.25/mo for 256 GB — which can be attached to any VPS for bulk storage needs like media servers, backups, and file hosting. BuyVM also offers dedicated servers and their unique "Stallion" premium VPS tier with AMD EPYC processors and NVMe storage.
BuyVM operates its own hardware in three data center locations with included DDoS protection by Path.net. While they're unmanaged (no cPanel, no hand-holding), their IRC community and responsive ticket support make them a favourite among technically savvy users who want maximum resources per dollar.

Cheapest VPS that does not suck
I needed a cheap VPS for my SaaS side project. Did not want to spend more than $5/mo. Tried a few budget providers and BuyVM is the one that stuck.
$3.50/mo gets you 1 core, 1GB RAM, 20GB NVMe, and 1TB bandwidth. That is enough to run a small Rails app with Postgres on the same box. The KVM instances are unmanaged, so you need to know your way around Linux, but that's the deal at this price.
What makes BuyVM stand out from other budget hosts is the storage slabs. You can bolt on 256GB of block storage for $1.25/mo. I use it for database backups and it works great.
Downsides: stock runs out constantly. If you want a specific location, you might wait weeks for availability. No managed option, no fancy dashboard. Just raw VPS.
For developers comfortable with the command line who want maximum bang for their buck, this is it.
