Tonga submarine cable severance by Hunga Tonga eruption

The 15 January 2022 Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai volcanic eruption severed the single submarine cable connecting Tonga to Fiji. Tonga was effectively offline for approximately five weeks. Emergency satellite connections (initially via Elon Musk's Starlink which arrived weeks later) provided partial coverage during the outage.
