During Hong Kong's 2019 pro-democracy protests, authorities increased monitoring and made selective takedowns of pages, but no full shutdown was implemented (unlike mainland China). The introduction of the National Security Law in mid-2020 gradually shifted Hong Kong's internet regime toward mainland Chinese practices.
