.tmall domain extension

The .tmall domain is a branded Top Level Domain operated by Alibaba Group Holding Limited, the Chinese e-commerce giant. It is a so called dot brand TLD, created specifically for Alibaba's online retail platform Tmall. Registration of .tmall domains is restricted to Alibaba Group and its affiliates. Individual consumers and other businesses cannot register .tmall names. The domain was delegated to Alibaba in January 2016. Since then it has been used primarily for Tmall related services, marketing, and internal operations, helping the company control its brand identity across the internet.

Alibaba applied for .tmall during ICANN's new gTLD program. The delegation was approved by IANA in early 2016, making .tmall one of the many corporate brand TLDs launched in that expansion round.
