Cool concept, average execution
I picked GreenGeeks because I liked the eco-friendly angle. They claim to put 3x the energy they consume back into the grid through renewable energy credits. Whether that math holds up to scrutiny, I honestly do not know, but at least they are trying.
The hosting itself is... fine? It is standard cPanel shared hosting. Nothing more, nothing less. My WordPress site loads in about 2.5 seconds, which is acceptable but not impressive. LiteSpeed is included, so there is that.
I had one issue where my site was throwing 500 errors randomly for a few hours. Support figured out it was a mod_security rule blocking legitimate requests. They fixed it, but it took about 3 hours total from report to resolution. Not terrible, not great.
The free domain, free SSL, and nightly backups are nice touches at the $2.95/mo intro price. Renewal goes up to $11.95/mo though, which is harder to justify when the performance is just okay.
If the environmental angle matters to you and you need basic shared hosting, it is a decent pick. I would not go out of my way to recommend it otherwise.
