About Cloudways

Cloudways is a managed cloud hosting platform that simplifies the deployment and management of web applications on top of leading cloud providers including DigitalOcean, AWS, and Google Cloud. Acquired by DigitalOcean in 2022, Cloudways bridges the gap between raw cloud infrastructure and fully managed hosting.

Their platform handles server provisioning, security patches, automated backups, caching (Varnish, Memcached, Redis), CDN (Cloudflare Enterprise), SSL management, and server monitoring — while giving users full control through an intuitive dashboard. Cloudways supports PHP, WordPress, Magento, Laravel, and other popular applications.

With a pay-as-you-go pricing model (no long-term contracts), free migrations, staging environments, and team collaboration features, Cloudways is ideal for developers, agencies, and growing businesses who want cloud performance without the complexity of managing servers directly.

Managed cloud hosting done right

Cloudways sits in a sweet spot between shared hosting and raw cloud servers. You pick your cloud provider (I chose DigitalOcean), they handle the server management — updates, security, backups, caching.

Their Breeze caching and Cloudflare Enterprise CDN integration noticeably improved my photography portfolio's load times. Image-heavy pages that took 5+ seconds now load in under 2.

The staging and cloning features save me hours. The server monitoring dashboard is clean and useful.

Since the DigitalOcean acquisition, prices have bumped up slightly and there's been some concern about independence. But the product itself remains solid. It's the perfect solution if you want cloud performance without the sysadmin overhead.
